Education Partners

The Blue Ridge Partnership for Health Science Careers recognizes that health businesses and educators need more collaboration to develop and enlarge the workforce required to support the region’s growing health and life sciences ecosystem. BRPHSC leaders have created a public-private approach to instruction. That approach leverages existing resources, standardizes rigorous curriculum informed by employers, and fits it inside the education system from K-12 through post-secondary levels.

Initial Goals for the Partnership include:

  • Raise the demands of the curriculum and close the gaps in education between school districts, community colleges, and four-year institutions
  • Ensure credits in the relevant curriculum can transfer between community colleges and four-year institutions
  • Increase access to industry training, certifications, and degrees for students and instructors
  • Adopt common terminology
  • Expand the definition of the health and life sciences curriculum to include courses such as leadership development and business, health analytics, cybersecurity, dietary, mechatronics, and biomedical engineering
  • Collect and combine data from schools and employers to better define career pathways

Ongoing goals include:

  • Eliminate barriers to program success by increasing the number of credentialed instructors, expanding work-based learning opportunities, and addressing student transportation costs
  • Bring students and employers together during the education process, giving employers access to prospective future employees
  • Facilitate access to and use of technology to advance a hybrid approach to instruction that enhances the quality and affordability of learning and helps overcome the challenges of the region’s geography and low population density

Culture-transformation goals include:

  • Ensure that the region has qualified health sciences professionals to meet the needs of our region’s health employers, help attract and retain companies seeking to move to our region, and support staffing needs for emerging businesses
  • Raise awareness among the region’s general population of the economic importance of the health and life sciences industry
